Endovascular Laser Therapy
What Is Endovascular Laser Therapy?Endovascular laser therapy is a technique that uses a laser to treat varicose veins. What Is The Indication? The procedure is indicated for patients with significant varicose veins (see link to Varicose Veins) who don’t wish to undergo traditional surgical intervention. Am I A Candidate for Endovascular Laser Therapy? You may be a good candidate for endovascular laser therapy if you have:
What Does The Surgery Involve?First, the skin is numbed. A thin laser device is introduced into the saphenous vein (near the knee). The laser fiber is guided through the vein to the groin using an ultrasound machine .The vein is then perfused with a small amount of fluid, using a needle and ultrasound. The laser is turned on and pulled back through the vein, which “ablates” the vessel (the tissue is destroyed thermally by the laser). A small band-aid is placed on the knee, and the patient can walk out of the procedure room. What Are The Advantages Of Endovascular Laser Therapy? The laser surgery is far less invasive than traditional surgeries such as vein stripping. Surgery is more effective than sclerotherapy because it is a permanent fix. How Long Does It Take? The laser surgery takes just a few minutes. How Many Treatments Are Required? This depends on the extent of the varicosity. When Will I See Results? The results of the procedure are fairly immediate. What Are My Alternatives to Endovascular Laser Therapy?
Will I Have Pain? There is almost never any significant pain. When Can I Go Back To Work Or School? You can go back to work or school the same day. Who Will Perform My Treatment? The surgery will be performed by one of our highly-trained specialists in the field. How Much Does It Cost? Please call TopSurgeons at 800-506-8084 for more information. Will My Insurance Cover Endovascular Laser Therapy? You should check with your individual insurance company to find out the standards or guidelines they have on medical necessity for this therapy. It many cases, it is deemed medically necessary and therefore covered. |
