What Is the Buttock Lift, Hip Lift, or Thigh Lift?

The buttock can be lifted, sculpted with liposuction, augmented with implants or fat, or a combination of any of the above. Similarly, the hip and thigh areas can be lifted to address sagging skin. The procedure of choice will depend on what your anatomy is and what your specific goals may be.

What Are the Indications for a Buttock Lift, Hip Lift, or Thigh Lift?

If you have sagging skin in the buttock, hip, or thigh areas, these procedures may be indicated.

Am I a Candidate?

You may be a candidate if :

  • You have lost some skin elasticity in your thigh, hip, or buttock areas.
  • Your skin area sags or has an "orange peel," or dimpled appearance. This may have occurred following significant weight loss.
  • The appearance of your thigh improves dramatically when you lift the lax skin.

What Do The Procedures Involve?

Buttock Lift

There are two types of procedures in buttock lift cosmetic surgery. One involves implanting solid or semi-solid implants under the upper buttock muscles to enhance the contours of the buttock region. Buttock lift cosmetic surgery utilizing implants can lift and enhance the features of the buttocks region. The procedure involves making a two to three inch incision in the crease between the buttocks. The buttocks implant is typically made of a material that prevents leaking. These solid or semi solid implants are inserted into the upper portions of the buttocks between the muscle and the fascia (the connective tissue that surrounds the muscle). The space made for the implant is the exact same size as the implant itself, which minimizes the risk that the implants will shift.  The implants are inserted into the upper portions of the buttocks, and contour enhancement is achieved. Manufacturers offer different sizes, shapes, and materials of buttock implants.

The second type of buttock lift cosmetic surgery involves taking fat from a different region of the body, often the abdominal area, the upper thigh area, the arms, or the back, and micro-grafting it into the buttocks area. In order for this procedure to be possible, an individual must have enough fat in other parts of the body that can be taken for use in the surgery. During this procedure, fat is gently extracted from the host area using liposuction techniques and equipment. Fat particles are purified and then inserted into the layers of the buttocks though a very small incision 1/8th of an inch wide. Fat cells are evenly distributed so that they will have an ample blood supply to keep them alive.

Thigh Lift

Your surgeon will mark the patient’s thighs while standing up. The skin is pinched and elevated towards the groin. In this way, an estimate is made of how much skin should be removed. An incision is made longitudinally, the excess skin and fat are removed and the remaining thigh skin is elevated and tightened. The surgical technique ensures that the scar is hidden in the groin crease.

What Are the Advantages of a Buttock Lift, Hip Lift, or Thigh Lift?

This procedure gives the thighs and buttock region a more visually pleasing, firmer and younger appearance.
