Veneers

Dental veneers are custom-designed, shell-like coverings for the front surface of the teeth which mask cosmetic imperfections in the teeth. They can be made of porcelain or composite resin.

What Are The Indications of Veneers?

Veneers are indicated to fix a variety of cosmetic tooth problems, including discoloration, chipped or broken teeth, irregularly shaped or misaligned teeth, or unsightly gaps between teeth.

Am I a Candidate for Veneers?

If you have simple imperfections in your teeth, and the underlying tooth and gum structure is not decayed or damaged, you may be a good candidate for veneers.

What Does the Procedure Involve?

First the dentist must remove a thin layer of enamel from the tooth so as to make room for the thickness of the veneer, usually about 0.5 mm. Then, an impression is taken of the tooth. This impression is then sent to a laboratory, which makes the veneers according to the impression that was taken. This process may take a week or more.

Once the veneers are received, you will return to your dentist’s office so he can fit the veneers to your teeth. The veneer is first placed on the tooth to ensure a proper fit, and is then removed. Then, special cement is applied to the veneer, and the veneer placed on the tooth again. The cement is activated by a beam of light, which “cures,” or permanently bonds, the cement to the tooth and veneer.

What Are the Advantages of Veneers?

  • The look of a veneer is completely natural.
  • Veneers are stronger than a conventional composite resin bonding process,.
  • If you use porcelain veneers, they resist staining.
  • Veneers are a much simpler alternative to crowns.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

Will I Have Pain?
