Lap Band Weight Loss

Getting and keeping the pounds off can be easier said than done when you make a visit to TopSurgeons.

The staff at TopSurgeons is extremely qualified when it comes to helping you achieve your weight loss goals. Starting with the Lap Band procedure, patients can start their new lives and not only look better, but feel healthier.

Taking the Weight Off

The Lap Band System is the brand name of the FDA-approved, adjustable gastric band placed in the upper part of the stomach.

A TopSurgeons doctor will perform a series of tiny incisions, then use a small camera, called a laparoscope, to visualize placement of the Lap Band. The Lap Band is situated around the top of the stomach and secured in place with sutures. The port is then situated below the skin on the top part of the abdomen. Surgery generally lasts anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour, and an overnight stay in the hospital may not be necessary.

A band adjustment can easily be done in a matter of minutes in a doctor's office weeks and months after the initial surgery.

Injecting saline into the port inflates the band, making the route to the lower part of the stomach smaller, which further prohibits food intake. Fluid can easily be removed in the doctor's office if the patient is finding it too tight.

Keeping the Weight Off

Once you have had Lap Band surgery, the next step is to begin the recovery period.

Your diet will change for weeks to months after the Lap Band procedure as your body adjusts to the band.

Another important facet of the procedure is healthy exercise. Lap Band patients need to exercise, preferably at least half an hour a day to keep the weight from coming back.
