Lap Band Advantages

Lap Band Pluses Add Up

Anyone having surgery may have some reservations about having such a procedure done. With Lap Band surgery, patients have minimal discomfort and no long-term effects.

Lap Band is Less Challenging

Once a patient has had the Lap Band procedure done, they will often find that they have reduced pain and less recovery time compared to other similar procedures and no hospital stay. A Lap Band procedure most oftentimes will take as little as 30 minutes to an hour.

Another advantage to Lap Band surgery is the procedure is adjustable and reversible should a patient not be satisfied with the results.

When a patient needs to have the Lap Band adjusted, it can be done through a simple procedure where a saline solution is inserted into the Lap Band itself. The surgeon does this by easily inserting a saline-filled needle into the skin and then into the reservoir portion of the Lap Band. This adjustment can be performed for women who are seeking to become pregnant or individuals who wish to lose additional weight.

If a person finds that the Lap Band surgery was not for them over time, the Lap Band may be removed. While doctors do not advise removing the Lap Band for any reason, knowing that it can be removed often gives comforts to patients.

Lap Band Involves No Cutting

Lap Band surgery also will not require cutting or stapling of the stomach, resulting in no long-term scars.

Lap Band surgery does not involve dividing, relocating or stapling internal organs, so there is less chance of bleeding or leakage.

A surgeon will make very small incisions in the stomach region. From there, he or she will insert tiny surgical instruments and are able to do their work via that small opening.

The Lap Band procedure does not result in permanent alteration of the stomach, or for that matter, any other portion of the digestive system. While the small intestine may seem like a large organ, one portion of the intestine may not be able to do the same work as another portion. Since each portion is specifically designated to take in certain nutrients, if that portion of the intestine is damaged or removed, a person may end up under nourished. With the Lap Band procedure, one’s intestines remain intact, and in position. Since a person's digestive organs stay intact, their body still absorbs all the nutrients in the food they eat.

TopSurgeons has successfully done more Lap Band surgeries than any other provider in California.
