Ferrell, 54, has quite the sense of humor. But one thing he does not find that funny is his weight problem.
For Ferrell, being overweight has led to a number of problems, yet it still has not stopped him from hitting the buffets in Las Vegas. Now, however, that may change.
Ferrell says that he is a “Fat guy who wants to be thin.” Saying he is tired of huffing and puffing whenever he is moving around, Ferrell claims that he got the idea Lap Band surgery might be the only thing to help him turn around his life.
When looking into how best to lose weight, Ferrell said that diets were not working for him and that this kind of weight loss procedure may have been his last hope.
“I want this (Lap Band surgery) really bad and I think it will help me get rid of my high blood pressure,” Ferrell remarked.

As he did some more investigating of the weight-loss operation, Ferrell said he liked what he heard about Lap Band surgery.
Ferrell decided to move forward with Lap Band surgery, and he could not wait to move in on his goal of dropping his pant size from a 50 down to a 42.
Even though he said he still had troubles passing up those buffets where he lives in Las Vegas, Ferrell felt like Lap Band surgery could give him some hope to turn his life around and not only be healthier, but happier.
Like many other individuals who are overweight or obese, Ferrell had a number of challenges sitting in front of him, and one of them was not what to choose at the buffet at his favorite casino in Las Vegas.
Lap Band and Losing Weight
Before he could move forward with Lap Band surgery, Ferrell had a chore in front of him. He would actually have to lose some weight on his own before even going onto the operating table.
His doctor let him know that he would have to lose around 20 pounds so that his stomach would be able to safely handle the Lap Band procedure that awaited him.
Ferrell knew that the buffet tables would have to wait to another day as he needed to somehow lose this weight before he could proceed with Lap Band surgery.
Knowing that Lap Band surgery was for him, Ferrell began to lose a few pounds here and there and before he knew it, he was ready for the Lap Band procedure.
As Ferrell put it, “If you are fat, you had better get this or you will be fat forever.”
For Ferrell, his decision to embark on Lap Band surgery would soon change his life for the better and he could not wait.

Ferrell reported that the endoscopy went well and he was also in the process of losing some of the necessary weight prior to the Lap Band procedure.
Even though he still had a hankering for the buffet tables in Vegas, Ferrell knew it was time to get serious about his weight before it led to major health problems.
Lap Band Preparation
As he prepared for his Lap Band operation, Ferrell had lost about half of the necessary weight, but he knew there was more to come.
“I really can’t wait to lose the weight,” Ferrell commented. “I have high blood pressure, so I have to show seriousness about this.”

While there was work ahead of him, Ferrell was the kind of patient who would tackle his weight problem head-on and do what was necessary to become thinner and improve his overall health at the same time.
Once he had the surgery, Ferrell would be back on a liquids only diet for a week or so before moving on to soft and pureed foods as all Lap Band surgery patients do.
When Ferrell did return to a buffet table down the road, one thing he would soon notice is that he would have less of an appetite following Lap Band surgery.

Lap Band Surgery
As Ferrell, 54, had the go-ahead to have his Lap Band procedure, his surgeon told him that he had embarked on a positive journey in getting the pre-op work done and was ready for the big day.
“I’m ready to go and have clear liquids for a week,” Ferrell said prior to his Lap Band surgery. “I’ll have regular food in two weeks. I don’t have a really bad situation, but the time to do it (Lap Band surgery) is now.”
As all Lap Band surgeons will note to their patients, their diet will change following Lap Band surgery.
Patients who undergo Lap Band surgery will have to stay away from carbonated beverages and spicy foods in the time following the procedure. It is also advised that Lap Band patients watch what they eat and chew their food properly.
Ferrell like all patients do got with his doctor and they went over how the operation would work and what Ferrell could expect.

The Lap Band operation typically takes less than an hour and barring any complications, the patient can expect to return home later that day.
In Ferrell’s case, the surgery went well and the doctor finished closing him up and Ferrell was now in recovery.
According to his doctor, Ferrell did a good job preparing for the Lap Band procedure by losing the necessary 20 pounds before they could proceed with the surgery.
In only a week following his Lap Band surgery, Ferrell had dropped in the area of 18 to 20 pounds. For Ferrell, the weight loss was happening and there was much more to come in the weeks and months ahead.
Lap Band Surgery Follow Up
As many patients will tell you following Lap Band surgery, they often feel full following their weight loss operation.
Ferrell would be quick to point out that he too felt full after his first regular meals and he would have to pass on the buffets when he went by them in his return to Las Vegas.
Being he was on a liquids-only diet as all patients are following Lap Band surgery, Ferrell noted that he was not hungry even a few days after his weight loss procedure.
