YAG Laser
The YAG Laser is a laser used in various dermatology applications which uses a crystal made of Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (YAG), which is treated with Neodymium (chemical symbol: Nd), a rare earth element. Hence, you will often see it called a Nd:YAG Laser which uses the GentleYAG laser system, which provides a Dynamic Cooling Device. What Are The Indications For YAG Laser Treatment?
Am I a Candidate? If you have wrinkles, aged or sun-damaged skin, skin laxity, unsightly hair, or telangiectasia (leg or facial veins) and you want an extremely effective treatment without a lot of down time or systemic side effects, you may be a good candidate for YAG Laser therapy. The results vary from individual to individual and depend on a number of different factors, including age, the area treated, the amount of laxity in the skin, and how well a patient’s skin responds. For loose skin and wrinkles, the best results are achieved in those with mild to moderate skin laxity and wrinkles though those with more severe conditions can also benefit. Procedure
The YAG laser transfers heat to the tissue below the skin surface. Surgeons believe that this causes contraction of the skin and the release of growth factors, which stimulate the production of collagen, elastin, and other proteins vital to skin integrity. This “non-ablative” technology works from below, so there is no damage to the top layer of the skin, unlike with conventional laser resurfacing or face-lift. Therefore, the possibility for any adverse reactions is decreased. Benefits/SafetyThe GentleYAG Laser offers:

When Will I See Results? Some patients report seeing results in a few days, but it usually takes 4-6 weeks to see optimal results. Will I Have Pain? Most patients are essentially pain free during this procedure-- we use the latest technology to minimize any discomfort (the Dynamic Cooling Device). We also may apply specially-formulated, highly effective pre-treatment topical anesthetic cream. This is sufficient for most patients. As every person has a different threshold for pain, for those especially sensitive patients, we have developed other protocols to ensure that the YAG Laser treatment is extremely comfortable and tolerable allowing you to fully enjoy the results without pain. When Can I Go Back to Work or School? You may return to normal activity the same day. Can Dark Skin Be Treated With This Procedure? The Yag Laser can be used effectively on dark or tanned skin. You may be given a special skin treatment regimen. Who Will Perform My Treatment?Treatments are performed by fully licensed and trained staff, consisting of registered nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and board certified dermatologists and plastic surgeons.
