Moles are most commonly removed by either shave removal or excision surgery. With shave removal, the affected mole is expertly removed by a special cosmetic blade flush with the skin. With excision surgery, the mole is removed with a small margin on surrounding skin usually in the shape of an ellipse.

What Are The Indications of Mole Removal Surgery?

Any unwanted or bothersome mole can be removed.

If you desire removal of a mole for aesthetic or medical purposes, you are a candidate. Our surgeons have experience removing thousands of moles to bring about the most cosmetically pleasing result.

What Does the Mole Removal Procedure Involve?

The mole is anesthetized and either the shave technique or excision technique is used. With the shave technique no sutures are needed but with excision we do place sutures in an expert cosmetic fashion. Then antibiotic ointment and a band-aid are applied.

What Are The Advantages of Mole Excision?

The advantages include cure of an unsightly or bothersome mole.

How Long Is The Procedure?

Usually the procedure lasts about 10 to 30 minutes

How Many Treatments Are Required?

Generally only one treatment is required.

Will I Have Pain?

We anesthetize the area to allow for comfort during the procedure. Most of our patients report minimal post-operative pain which responds readily to medicines prescribed at the time of discharge.

When Can I Go Back To Work Or School?

You can generally return to work on the same day.

Will Insurance Cover?

If mole removal is for cosmetic purposes, then it is not covered by insurance. If the procedure is performed for medical purposes, then the surgery is usually covered by insurance.
